We were delighted to welcome Sir Stephen Timms MP at our Newham Mental Health Service this week. Sir Stephen made the visit to find out more about the role of supported housing services and the difference they make to local people in Newham.
Look Ahead CEO Chris Hampson and representatives from Newham Council, and the National Housing Federation met with Sir Stephen for a discussion during the visit. The group spoke about a range of issues.
Some of these included developing mental health support pathways, bringing Newham residents living in out of borough hospital placements back into Newham and the community, and how to deliver better quality social care services at a lower cost.
After a tour of the service, Sir Stephen sat down with customers who told him about their experience with Look Ahead. Our customers told him about the 24-hour support they receive from us, and how they feel safe and comfortable as residents with us.
They also spoke about their favourite activities such as taking part in competitions with the service’s seven a side football team, and going for walks, and enjoyed sharing their important milestones such as weight loss and living a healthier lifestyle.
Making good use of the meeting with a Newham MP, the customers also had the chance to raise local issues that affect their lives.
We would like to thank Sir Stephen for joining us and hope to continue working with him and other partners to deliver quality support and better life outcomes for Newham residents in the future.
