The Nimrod House team celebrating at the National Learning Disabilities and Autism Awards
The awards celebrate excellent support for people with learning disabilities and aim to pay tribute to those individuals or organisations who excel in providing quality care.
Look Ahead based its entry on its Nimrod House service, a specialist learning disability service in Newham, London, which supports individuals with complex learning disabilities and autism, many of whom will have been in secure hospital settings for a number of years.
The Nimrod House service, for which Look Ahead also won a UK Housing Award in June, is made up of newly refurbished, self-contained flats that are tailored to support our customers and their needs. It is aligned to NHS England’s Transforming Care Agenda and works closely with clinicians and local partners to provide bespoke support in a unique service environment that combines registered care and supported living.
Chris Hampson, Chief Executive of Look Ahead, said: “It is fantastic to receive this national award in recognition of Look Ahead’s pioneering work providing a successful alternative to secure hospital placements for people with complex learning disabilities.
“At Nimrod House, we have developed an accommodation-based model that really works. It can be replicated in order to accelerate the transformation that the government, as well as individuals with complex learning disabilities and their families, are desperately looking for.”
The judges of the National Learning Disabilities & Autism Awards said: “Look Ahead demonstrated a fresh approach to housing and support. They are passionate about the people they support, driving improvement and change and positive behaviour support.”
The National Learning Disabilities & Autism Awards were held on 14 July at the ICC, Birmingham.
